Foreign language support services
The Learning Commons provides the following foreign language support services. We hope the services will be of help to your studies.
Language Cafe
Initiatives such as Cafe Time and presentations by international students at SLIU graduate schools are designed to encourage students to develop their English skills.
Note: Held online during 2021 academic year (during term time only).
Bookings not required. The Support Office for Learning Community posts upcoming dates and details via email. Check your email for updates.
Reading Corner
The English-language Reading Corner is located in Commons 302. Novels and literary works are grouped by proficiency level and selected magazines are also available. CD players can be used for listening practice, with a range of dedicated study materials available.
A stamp card program provides incentives to encourage extensive reading. Inquire at the Academic Support Counter.
TED Talk Exhibition
Videos of The 10 Best TED Talks of the Year are released annually (accessed via QR codes). Associated publications (available for loan) are displayed in the corridor of the Learning Commons.
